My first attempt at Young Lakes ended in disappointment—after miles of hiking, I reached the shore only to find my camera battery dead. I borrowed a friend’s camera and took a picture. It was great and the picture won an award. But, on a recent trip, many years later I pushed back up the trail a second time, this time with my DSLR This time, with a better camera and more experience. I was able to capture the light poured across the rugged peak and lit the lake with color. This image, captured was worth every step back.
